Up Close View of the Scandinavian Lifestyle (Coming Soon)

I’ll be traveling to Scandinavia for the next 10 days—something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

I’m especially interested in:

  • Sauna culture
  • Nordic wildlife like reindeer
  • Viking history
  • Winter sports and outdoor living
  • Scandinavian resistance during World War II

When I told my wife I was hoping to see reindeer on the trip and she said "They are real?" - I said they don't have red noses or fly but they are real.

While I may not be posting during the trip, I’ll be capturing photos and ideas for future content.

In the meantime, feel free to explore:

Here are top fun facts about Scandinavia:

  • Lego Origin: LEGO was invented in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen in Billund, Denmark. The name comes from Danish leg godt, meaning "play well".
  • Norway's Royal Penguin: Norway knighted a penguin named Nils Olav, who is a Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Army.
  • Highest Medal Count: Norway has won more medals at the Winter Olympic Games than any other nation (368 medals as of 2020).
  • Most Fjords: Norway has more fjords than anywhere else in the world, with over 1,000.
  • Swedish Inventions: Sweden is the birthplace of the zipper, the computer mouse, the pacemaker, and the refrigerator.
  • Oldest Monarchy: Denmark is home to one of the world's oldest monarchies, dating back to 935 AD.
  • Dangerous Road Signs: Road signs depicting moose (elk) are the most frequently stolen souvenirs from Sweden.
  • Sunny Winter Shortage: In parts of Norway, winter days may only have 3 hours of sunlight, or none at all.
  • Beach Culture: Despite being in the north, Scandinavia has popular surfing beaches, with Sweden’s coast sometimes called the "Swedish Riviera".
  • Independence Celebration: Norway celebrates Constitution Day (May 17) with massive children’s parades rather than military displays.

Hoping to come back with new insights—and maybe a bit of that Scandinavian calm.

Stay healthy and happy.

  1. After seeing these habits up close, I realized how much of health comes down to simple routines done consistently.

Which of these habits do you think would be the easiest for you to start with

  2. Copenhagen is a vibrant, walkable city with an extraordinary number of bike lanes and cyclists.

We enjoyed Danish pastries and soaked up the sunny atmosphere alongside locals embracing "Hygge" — the Danish cultural concept of coziness, togetherness, and savoring simple pleasures.

A highlight was visiting Freetown Christiania, a fascinating 84-acre self-governing hippie commune established in 1971, known for its colorful homes, alternative lifestyle, and car-free streets.

Despite high taxes, Danes enjoy free healthcare and education, reflecting a society that clearly prioritizes community well-being — a theme felt throughout the entire city.
